In today’s episode of the Gym Owner’s Growth Zone podcast, our host Andres Escobar meets with Jodi and Thad Rund to discuss their journey and how the two of them came together to succeed as a team.

Jodi and Thad’s Background

  • Both Jodi and Thad met in college, while Thad was serving in the Army National Guard.
  • After realizing how the National Guard could help cover college costs, Jodi ended up enlisting to help pay for her own college. While the two were serving, they ALWAYS maintained their physical fitness.
  • After returning from Iraq, the two visited Costa Rica and fell in LOVE with the country. They decided to settle down in the Caribbean as a result.
  • After Jodi began to work with school athletes, people began asking her to design fitness and nutrition programs for them.
  • Thad, meanwhile, was always surrounded by physical culture and absolutely LOVED learning and applying information about lifting, nutrition, and physical activity.

How They Found Success

  • There have been two MAJOR guiding principles for Jodi and Thad as they developed their business: Be passionate and allow it to run themselves.
  • Both are now in their 40s and would rather spend time with their kids instead of focusing on the nitty gritty of running the gym business. As such, they only check in on it from time to time and allow the business to manage itself.
  • They also make SURE they’re passionate about the work they do, to maximize how important and enjoyable it is for them.
  • As they’ve continued to work on their business, both Jodi and Thad maintained their discipline. Specifically, they focused on getting outside perspectives for their business. They have the humility to know they don’t know EVERYTHING about business.
